It was back to League business tonight, and the results were:

Tomatin Utd 0-1 Tomatin
Carr-bridge 2-1 Cromdale
RBL 6-4 Aviemore

So with all 3 sides at the top of the table winning tonight, it's still very tight. An exciting 2008 season is very much a prospect now!

23 May 2008

We're delighted to announce that the SBWFA will shortly be hitting the local headlines - but for all the right reasons this time!

The Badenoch & Strathspey Herald has agreed to restart its weekly summary of Welfare football in the area, so how do you fancy becoming a reporter? What we need is a brief summary of your game (goals, scorers, major incidents etc) as soon as possible after the final whistle. From this we can make-up the weekly summary and see it in print the following week. A photographer will also attend selected games every week to add an extra "va va voom" to the article.

This is a very positive move from the Strathy, and it's one we want to see working. So please, help us to promote your team. Simply email us with your reports and we'll do the rest.

Thanks.

** STATEMENT **

Following the back page headline in a well known local publication today, we would like to make the following public statement in response:

The SBWFA is 100% committed to supporting all match officials appointed to serve at matches under its auspices. We further categorically state our continuing belief in fair play and respect for these match officials, for without them there would be no football. We take, and have taken, swift and decisive action whenever a report is received advising of any negative conduct toward a referee on SBWFA business.

However we also state that such matters, rare as they are, are dealt with on a totally confidential basis and findings will only ever be published if they are deemed to be in the best interests of the SBWFA as a whole. We similarly denounce all forms of furtive journalism where hearsay and guesswork are masqueraded as statements of fact in order to sensationalise a storyline. Our commitment is, and remains, for the betterment of Welfare football in Strathspey & Badenoch: players and match officials alike.

The SBWFA will make no further comment as our position has been made perfectly clear above.

22 May 2008

All teams are reminded that an appeal system against automatic 5 match suspensions for ordering-off offences is in place within the SBWFA. All such appeals must be made within 24 hours of the final whistle by either phone, text or email to any one of the Disciplinary committee (ie. Alasdair MacNeill, Graeme Mackie or Rob Clark.) This is to be followed-up by either an email or a first class letter from a club official who was present at the match with further information on why an appeal has be made.

A list of appeals made to date is given below:

Aviemore Thistle FC
James Halloran: (Hand Ball on the line) - reduced to 1 match ban.
James Halloran: (Hand Ball on the line) - reduced to 2 match ban with warning a 3rd red card would invoke a disciplinary hearing.
Alan Creswel: *awaiting Referee's Report.

RBL FC
Joe Hardy: (2 cautions in 1 game) - reduced to 1 match ban.

Carr-bridge FC
David Robertson: *awaiting Referee's Report.

*Please note that an appeal cannot be dealt with until the Disciplinary Committee has received the match Referee's report (there are sometimes delays in receiving these).

21 May 2008

To say the response to both previous appeals for nominations for a SBWFA Select XI to face both Rothes FC in a friendly and participation in the annual Daily Record Trophy has been disappointing is perhaps something of an understatement. To date, both requests have received the grand total of zero replies. These are wonderful opportunities for our League to showcase itself, and perhaps impress a few scouts on the lookout for new talent for more senior sides.

So once more we ask for nominations from each club. Time is ticking here, and the generous offers won't be on the table forever. So send your nominations by email as soon as possible, or miss out on two fantastic chances.

20 May 2008

It was week 5 of the David Ritchie & Sons League tonight with all 6 clubs being in action. The scores were:

Carr-bridge 1-1 RBL
Cromdale 7-2 Tomatin Utd
Tomatin 3-1 Aviemore Thistle

19 May 2008

The SBWFA has been invited to participate in a challenge match with Highland League side Rothes FC on Saturday 12 July in Carr-bridge. We are therefore seeking nominations from each club for players to form a select XI.

Please note however that there is a deadline of THIS FRIDAY in order for us to either accept or decline the invitation, but it would be in our best interests if we accepted. It would benefit our players to take on higher quality opposition, as well as providing a great spectacle for the supporters.

Please contact us as soon as possible with all nominations and we'll take it from there. Don't sit on this one: it's too good a chance to pass up.

16 May 2008

In a very evenly contested RBL Aviemore Cup Final tonight, Carr-bridge edged out Tomatin 1-0 thanks to a goal after only 3 minutes from Dougie Edwards which followed a mistake by the Tomatin goalkeeper from a David Robertson corner kick.

Carr-bridge could have extended their lead at various stages during the first half, but a mixture of poor finishing and lack of quality to the final pass let them down; while at the other end Tomatin seemed unusual shot-shy.

The second half was a very hard fought contest on a very hard Aviemore playing surface, with scoring chances being few and far between. However Carr bridge held on in a very nervy last 10 minutes after David Robertson received a straight red card for speaking out of turn to Referee MacLeod following a tussle with an opponent.

The RBL Aviemore Trophy was handed over by RBL official Mr Ian Turner, on the far left back row in the photograph.

(Apologies for the poor picture quality. Any further submissions welcome.)

13 May 2008

Tonight was an evening of surprise results as League football returned to the fore. The results were:

Cromdale 2-1 Aviemore Thistle
Tomatin Utd 2-2 Carr-bridge
RBL 3-2 Tomatin

12 May 2008

In light of recent events, this is perhaps a good time to remind all players and officials that without match referees there would be no games. Referees aren't so think-skinned that they can't take the usual moans and groans during a game, however there's a very clear defining line between what is acceptable and what is not. There is absolutely no justification whatsoever for abusing a match official, verbally of physically, simply because individuals don't believe a correct decision has been made.

None.

Clubs and players have a duty of responsibility to conduct themselves in a civilised and correct manner. The football field is no different to the rest of the world, and so what is unnacceptable to society in general is similarly unacceptable to the SBWFA. Anyone crossing this line of acceptability can expect to be dealt with swiftly and severely for the good of the Association as a whole. Please note this point well and apply it. Thank you.

A new Tomatin FC wallpaper has been added to the site, and it can be downloaded in various screen sizes by clicking here.

10 May 2008

A very hastily convened disciplinary committee meeting was held late last night between Scotland and Spain, and it was agreed that Tomatin FC have been awarded Friday's tie as they were 3-0 ahead with over 75% of the game played at the time of its abandonment. So they will now face Carr-bridge in next week's final.

Other events were also discussed and these will be made public in due course.

9 May 2008

This evening's RBL Cup ties ended as follows:

Aviemore Thistle 1-3 Carr-bridge
Tomatin A-A RBL

The Tomatin v RBL game was abandoned on 80 mins due to an incident involving an RBL player and the match referee. The SBWFA is not at liberty to discuss the details due to there now being Police involvement, however there are likely to be fairly serious repercussions resulting from this matter and the Association is presently involved in some fairly delicate negotiations with the North of Scotland Referees Association. The outcome of the match will be confirmed following an emergency disciplinary committee meeting very soon.

Once events are finalised, the SBWFA will issue a full and frank statement. However, for the moment we can categorically state that our Association absolutely WILL NOT tolerate ANY form of abuse by its member clubs towards match officials. Any club or players chosing to ignore this basic rule can expect to be punished swiftly and severely.

6 May 2008

It was back to League business this evening with all 6 clubs in action. The scores were:

Tomatin Utd 2-3 RBL
Aviemore Thistle 0-3 Carr-bridge
Cromdale 1-8 Tomatin

3 May 2008

Due to the withdrawl of Buchan WFA from this year's Daily Record Trophy, we have received an invitation to compete in their place. This competition will take place some time in June and we're looking to make up a team as soon as possible. It's our chance to expose the SBWFA to a wider audience and showcase the undoubted talent we possess in our ranks.

Clubs are therefore invited to submit names for inclusion in the SBWFA select squad. These can be submitted to Graeme Mackie directly by email. Please don't sit on this one - the clock's ticking....

2 May 2008

It was RBL Cup action tonight, and the scores were:
