More pre-season action took place this weekend with Carr-bridge playing hosts to the new Aviemore Thistle. An exciting game ended in a 4-2 win for the home side. Again, if your club is due to play any pre-season games, let us know and we'll post the results up here.

The SBWFA will have 4 representatives in this year's Tom Hunter Memorial Trophy (Highland Welfare Cup), namely Aviemore Thistle, Cromdale, Carr-bridge and Tomatin. Last year's final remains outstanding, however it will now be played on Saturday 19 April at Borough Briggs in Elgin and will feature our own Tomatin FC against McNabs.

Has your club played any pre-season friendlies lately? If so, drop us an email and we'll post the result up here, and a short match report if you have one. Only one such fixture is known about so far, and that was a 1-0 win for Carr-bridge away to RBL last Sunday, a brief description of which can be found on the Carr-bridge FC website..

Confirmation has been received from the North of Scotland Referees Association that officials' match fees will remain fixed at £25 per game this season. However due to the hefty jump in fuel prices over the year, travel expenses have been raised to 30p per mile with immediate effect.

The full 2008 fixtures list has now been compiled and is ready to view. Simply click on the "Fixtures & Results" button on the left. A downloadable copy is also available for printing, and this can be found in the "Downloads" section. The season begins on Tuesday 15 April with the McCook Cup 1st round, with the full league campaign kicking-off the following week.

It has also been confirmed that the new over-30s club, admitted to the league in last week's AGM, will indeed take over the Aviemore Thistle name, and their home base and colours are the same as the old Thistle's last season. Kingussie FC, however, have sadly folded and will not take part this season.

Last night's AGM answered a few questions, but also cast a bit of doubt on the forthcoming season.

Firstly, the matter of the clubs' insurance obligations was answered through the extreme generosity of our sponsors, David Ritchie & Sons. All member clubs' dues have now been paid and the SBWFA wish to express our gratitude to David Ritchie & Sons for helping out in such a wonderful manner. It was also decided that there will once more be 6 cups contested for this year, with Tomatin Utd providing a trophy for the first time. League games will now score 3 points for a win, which will hopefully lead to improved competition. A new Over 30s team was also accepted for League membership.

However, we are presently awaiting confirmation of the status of both Kingussie FC and Aviemore Thistle FC as it would appear both clubs have now folded. The new Over 30s team will investigate the retention of Aviemore Thistle's name if that club has indeed folded, and we will as ever keep you posted here. A full set of fixtures will shortly be published, and will be available to download as a printable document from this site.

Contact and general information is still outstanding for several clubs, and this can be emailed to us by clicking here.
