RBL Aviemore FC - 2009 League Champions!

The curtain finally came down on the 2009 season tonight as RBL Aviemore were presented with the SBWFA Leage Championship shield following a comfortable 4-2 win over Tomatin Utd. 9-man Aviemore Thistle went down 8-2 away to Kingussie to secure the unwanted wooden spoon.

The SBWFA committee members would like to thank every manager and player for taking part in this season's campaign, particularly as it got off to such a difficult start with so many teams dropping out. We will be actively recruiting for new teams for next year, so please spread the word!

But whilst the season has come to an end, this website will still be active, giving all the latest news and views concerning the SBWFA. So please keep stopping by.

Thank you.

The last cup action of 2009 took place tonight with RBL Aviemore hoping to thwart Kingussie's push for a grand slam of all 4 trophies in the Tomatin United Cup Final.

This they managed through a comfortable 4-1 win and so complete the picture of competition winners for the season.

Next week sees the year's final action when RBL will be presented with the David Ritchie & Sons League Trophy after their home clash with Tomatin United. There's still an edge however as the Sky Blues and Aviemore Thistle will battle to avoid the wooden spoon, so a fine end to the season is in prospect. Spectators are invited to pop along to Aviemore or Kingussie to watch the action.

Who said end of season games are boring?

Tonight's penultimate League fixtures saw champions-elect RBL pip local rivals Aviemore Thistle 8-6 in an absolutely thrilling encounter. A comfortable 5-1 Legion lead was swallowed up to see the Jags go 5-6 ahead before RBL rallied to end with the narrow win.

And in Tomatin, 10-man Kingussie put United to the sword with a 5-0 mauling to see them secure 2nd place in the table. The wooden spoon will be decided in a fortnight with the Sky Blues holding a slim 1 point lead over Thistle.

It was Tomatin United Cup action tonight, and the last finalists of the year have now been decided.

RBL booked their place by walkover as opponents Aviemore Thistle were unable to raise a team for the game. Meanwhile in Badenoch Kingussie took another giant step towards an unprecedented cup grand-slam, reaching their fourth final of 2009 with a 3-0 win over unlucky tournament hosts Tomatin Utd.
